Aloha Bobcat Ohana!

Finally! The best time of the year has arrived in full.  Our 5th-grade team got us revved up and ready to go for the beginning of Football season.  The annual tailgate party was a great success as our students celebrated a strong pre-season and the anticipation of a great season ahead, both on the field and in the classroom.
Our first round of testing is largely behind us, procedures are in place, and we have settled into the business of our day-to-day learning.  Parents, please be sure to check backpacks and ParentSquare daily for important messages from the school, district and your child’s teacher.
Some of you may have noticed that we’ve had quite a bit of rain in the afternoons, especially around dismissal time.  Please see the section below, “Failure to Launch,” to learn about delayed dismissals for our students' safety.
Please check out the rest of the Blast! to learn more about our Guidance and Student Support Team and to get advance notice of the wonderful things our PTA is doing.  If you haven’t already, please consider supporting our PTA by joining for only $10 per family.  Included with your membership is a Spirit Discount Card for several participating local businesses, as a thank-you for joining the PTA!
Wednesday is Fall Picture Day, and we are looking forward to seeing our bobcats all spiffed up.  Trying to keep elementary schoolers looking picture-perfect past morning drop-off is like trying to keep a cotton candy cone intact in a rainstorm. By 9:00, the freshly combed hair has surrendered to gravity, the tucked-in shirts are flying free, and somehow someone already has syrup on their elbow.  But we will do our best to keep them as close to the way you send them in as we can.
Don’t forget, Monday, Labor Day, is a school holiday!  I hope you have a great 3-day weekend.

I wish you well,

Jim

Failure to Launch

When Dismissals are Delayed

Delayed Dismissal

In the event of a delayed dismissal (typically due to lightning in the area), students will be housed in their respective classroom buildings to wait out the storm. Please remain in your vehicles. If it is safe, PLE staff will direct you one at a time to the front of your building, where you may exit your vehicle and sign your child out. We will not be able to bring your child to the car, nor release them to your car. You must sign them out and escort them to your vehicle personally. If there are no staff outside to assist you, please remain safely in your vehicle until the storm passes. We appreciate your patience during this process, and please be sure that we want to get them home as safely and quickly as you do.

Transportation / Bus Delay

Unfortunately, even when we are able to dismiss on time, other schools experience a Delayed Dismissal, which affects our buses and results in later arrival times for our students. When this happens, you should receive a message from the Transportation department and a message on the OCPS Transportation website.  Unfortunately, the buses are not operated by the school, and we get our information from the same dashboard you do.  We will try to send a message from the school, but we often don’t know whether the bus will be late or by how much until it actually happens.
